Sondra, Mom just sent your husband a disk with about 60 pages. The early pages are on the Ahlers family as I was growing up in the Bronx. The balance of the work is my life growing up, and winds up in the NYPD. I still have 60 pages to go. Glen has said yes to edit the work for me, and let me know if it's worth binding or take Don's offer to place on the web page he will set up for me. Dear Keith: Give me a hint, about a story we were both involved in, and I will write the story. Like the time you saved me from falling off the roof at Sackett Lake, or the time we ran out of gas on the Hammerhead Boat, in the Gulf of Mexico, and you were sucking gas to get us going but we had to be towed home anyway. June 7, 2001 -- Forty-eight years ago, my brother LeGrande was born. A casualty in one of life's mysteries, he is gone. At least I cannot call him on the phone. I cannot rub his thinning hair, I cannot stare into those infinite eyes, nor can I wonder at that galactic smile. But then again, I can. I don't call LeGrande every day. But we visit in my thoughts and in my dreams. Still the big brother, he tells me to watch out for this and not to be fooled by that. I tell him I miss him, he says he misses me too. I remember a conversation we had a couple of years ago. Instead of letting the God thing divide us as radio stations did so many years ago, we concentrated upon that which we could agree. We agreed, that should either of us die, that he would nonetheless live on if only in the hearts and mind of the other. And, similarly, live on in the hearts and minds of our spouses, our children, our parents, our siblings, our cousins, our nieces and nephews, our aunts and uncles, our in-laws, our colleagues, and our friends. I think of the church full of mourners last fall in Manhattan. LeGrande lives on in all of our hearts. I miss you brother.
